Offices, in the works

An Office is your business as a place you can walk into: a building with your name over the door, your day on the wall, and your AI staff at their desks, each working under the rules you set. The first few are being built now.

Join the founding listNo price yet. The first Offices go to a few businesses, at a founding price.

What an Office is

  1. 01

    Your name over the door

The building wears your brand: the sign, your colours on the walls and the board, your name on the desks.

Each Office is dressed from your own brand book.

    Yours
  2. 02

    Your day on the wall

A board drawn each morning from your own records: what came in, what waits for your word, and the week ahead.

The Office reads your app's records through a link you can close at any hour; it never keeps them.

    Every morning
  3. 03

    Your staff at their desks

AI staff with names and duties, each at a desk that shows the work in hand, each under the rules and the spending limit you set.

Nothing goes out in your name without your word.

    Under your rules
  4. 04

    A place you walk into

It runs on a Mac today, with the staff's looks chosen from a glass by the door; a version you open in your browser is planned.

Your records stay on your own machine.

    On your Mac

A first look

The Carriage House, dressed for an example inn. The inn, its people and its numbers are invented, and the pictures are of the Office as it runs; yours is drawn from your own business.

The Carriage House, a small brick building with a clock cupola, its sign reading Larkmoor House, an inn on the river, since 1824

Your name over the door

The Carriage House, dressed for the example inn: its sign, its colours, its lamps lit at the door.

Inside the Office: a large board reading Good morning, Ruth, with the inn's bookings, the stays this week and three things waiting for her word, above three desks for Iris, Owen and Juno

The day on the wall

The morning's board above three desks: Iris at the front desk, Owen on the books, Juno on the schedule. Sample records.

Iris's desk: her screen shows a reply to a guest about the Chart Room, drafted in the owner's voice and waiting to send at 8:30

Each desk shows its work

Iris's reply to a guest, drafted in the owner's voice; it sends at 8:30 unless the owner stops it.

A menu titled Choose how each of them looks, listing Iris, Owen and Juno beside nine portraits to choose from

Your staff, as you choose

A glass by the door lets you choose how each member of staff looks; the choice is kept for every visit.

How one is made

  1. Your answers.

The setup guide, with a deeper chapter for an Office: your building, your staff and what each of them does.

  2. Your staff, chosen.

Each duty becomes a member of staff with a name, a desk, the tools it needs and a limit on what it may spend.

  3. Your building, dressed.

Your brand on the sign, the board, the walls and the desks, from your own brand book.

  4. You walk in.

With your day already on the wall and your staff at work on it.

An Office shows what your staff are doing; it never sends anything in your name without your word, and it never copies your records off your machine.

Will we take it?

Five questions, a minute. If the answer to any one is yes, we would refuse the job, and the reason is written here as it would be in our letter.

  1. Does the work need a licence to do, as law, medicine or building do?It needs a licence to do. That is the first thing on our refused list, and it stays there.
  2. Does it touch anyone's health records, or could a failure hurt someone's body?It touches health or safety. A failure there is harm to a person, not a loss to a business, and we do not take that on.
  3. Would it hold or move money that belongs to other people, or could a failure end in a lawsuit rather than a loss?It carries other people's money or legal exposure. We build where a failure is a loss you can see and recover from.
  4. Does it run on Amazon: a seller account, listings, publishing, or anything on their platform? It runs on Amazon. We do not touch Amazon accounts; their rulings can close a business overnight, and no build is worth that risk to you.
  5. Do you want a do-it-yourself builder, to make or change the software yourself, rather than a finished thing that works? You want a tool to build with. We do not sell one: we build the finished thing, show it working, and hand it over.

Why a place

We are building the first few now, for businesses that want to be first.

Most software for a small business is a list. An Office is a place: you walk in, the day is on the wall, and your staff are at work on it. You see who is doing what, what waits for your word, and what was done while you were away.
